General Information
Each day of the festival will feature multiple giveaways. There is no purchase necessary to enter. Winners must be registered for HIFB Virtual 2020. Registration is free. Prizes will be shipped via USPS. International registrants are welcome to participate, as long as your country allows mail delivery from the United States. Registrants located in countries on USPS’s International Mail Service Disruption List will be ineligible to win prizes this year due to our inability to ship to these countries.
Each registrant will only be able to win one of each type of prize (pin, print, care package, swag pack). For example: if you win a care package one day, you will not be eligible to win another care package on any of the other days of the festival. However, you will still be eligible to win an HIFB swag pack! If you’re lucky enough to also win a swag pack, you will be then ineligible to win another swag pack during the rest of the festival as well, etc.
We are also giving away two museum quality prints of Caren Loebel-Fried’s ‘ūlili, one on before the festival and one after the festival. If you win the first print you will be ineligible to win the second print.
There are no substitutions allowed for any of the prize items. You win what you win! 🙂

Participants that submit photos for this giveaway understand that HIFB may use photos submitted to promote and share the festival, and grant HIFB permission to do so. The deadline to submit responses for the care package giveaway is 8pm Hawai‘i Standard Time, each day of HIFB Virtual.
Here are the bird-themed items for each day’s care package! The edible treats will be a surprise (but all of the treats will be from Hawai‘i Island).

HIFB Swag Pack:
During the Festival, October 15-19
A pocket HIFB notebook with water-resistant cover, HIFB Virtual 2020 magnet, HIFB holographic sticker, Hawai‘i Wildlife Center limited edition 1,000 patients celebratory sticker, and a Friends of Hakalau Forest sticker. There will be 50 winners (10 per day of the festival). To enter, correctly answer the day’s presentation question. Each question will be able to be answered by watching one of that day’s presentation videos. The deadline to submit responses for the presentation question is 8pm Hawai‘i Standard Time, each day of HIFB Virtual.
Some presentation question winners will also receive a bonus prize based on the day’s presentation. Swag packs with a bonus and swag packs without a bonus are both considered to be the same “type” of prize. So if you win a pack with a bonus, you cannot win another pack even though it is without a bonus (and vice versa).
BONUSES
Thursday 10/15: 5 of the 10 Presentation Question swag pack winners will also receive a copy of Field Guide to the Birds of Hawai‘i
Friday 10/16: 2 of the 10 Presentation Question swag pack winners will also receive a copy of Hawai‘i’s Kōlea.
Saturday 10/17: 2 of the 10 Presentation Question swag pack winners will also receive a copy of the book Midway A Guide to the Atoll and Its Inhabitants

HIFB Holographic Sticker
During the Festival, October 15-19
Go birding for Hawaiian species! If you live anywhere in Hawai‘i, send us a photo of you birding (but please respect any trail or forest closures and social distancing mandates!). If you aren’t able to go out and bird, or if you live on the mainland, we’ll be posting an activity that will allow you to bird Hawaiian species at home. Take a photo of you doing this activity and send it to us via email or using the form that will be provided come festival time. Participants that submit photos for this giveaway understand that HIFB may use photos submitted to promote and share the festival, and grant HIFB permission to do so. All submissions must be in by 11:59pm HST on October 19! Everyone who submits a photo of them birding Hawaiian species at home will get a sticker.
BONUS
2 participants will also be randomly selected from all of the submissions received. Those 2 winners will receive a special bonus, a copy of the book Albatross of Kaua‘i The Story of Kaloakulua along with a Mama and baby Mōlī (Laysan Albatross). Yes, we’re technically the Hawai‘i Island Festival of Birds, but in the spirit of our theme “Wanderers and Migrants” along with the fact that we do see albatross off our coast, this is still a fitting bonus HIFB prize, indeed!
Caren Loebel-Fried’s ‘ūlili Print, #2/500
Post-festival, Winner announced on October 20, 2020
Museum-quality print signed and numbered by artist. 1 winner. To enter, participate in at least one care package or presentation question during the festival. Winner will be randomly selected from everyone who participated in at least one care package or presentation question. The winner of Caren Loebel-Fried’s ‘ūlili Print, #1/500, (pre-festival prize) will be ineligible to win the post-festival prize.
Selection of Winners
Winners will be randomly selected. Each successfully entered registrant will be assembled in a list and assigned a unique number. We will use random.org to generate a randomized sequence of all numbers assigned. The first number in the sequence will indicate the winner. If the first number happens to be ineligible (i.e. has won the same type of prize before), we will continue down the sequence until we reach an eligible winner. For prizes with multiple winners, we will take the top number of eligible winners. For example, if there are five presentation question prizes available that day, then the top five eligible winner numbers in the sequence will win.
Claiming Prizes
Winners will be contacted via email from info@birdfesthawaii.org for their mailing address. Winners will also be posted on the HIFB website. Shipping costs of the prizes will be covered by HIFB. Winners will have seven (7) days to respond. If no response is received, a new drawing will be conducted to find another winner.
