DESCRIPTION:Hawai‘i Wildlife Center Development Coordinator reads her favorite children’s book\, No Ka Manu Heia Keia Nuku by Sam L. No‘eau Warner. This book challenges you to identify each bird based on its beak. An additional challenge… the book is completely in Hawaiian! Don’t worry though\, the sentences are simple and you’ll be taught everything you’ll need to know to be able to follow along.  \nThis book is Rae’s favorite book to read to keiki (children) at outreach events. It’s fun for adults too! \n\nAbout the Presenter\n\n \nRae Okawa\, Hawai‘i Wildlife Center\nRae was born and raised on O‘ahu where she developed a passion for native birds early on.  During her school years\, she was especially inspired by her work with the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology and the Nature Conservancy of Hawai‘i.  She is a self-proclaimed “Bird Nerd” and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Cornell University and a Masters of Environmental Studies degree from the University of Pennsylvania.  Rae is also a student of Pūlama nā Liko’s Hālau Hula. \nRae is on the Hawai‘i Island Festival of Birds committee and is also the Development Coordinator at the Hawai‘i Wildlife Center in charge of all areas of fund development\, PR\, outreach\, and social media (Facebook\, Instagram and Twitter:@HWCenter). She has an affinity for papercrafts and bird costumes as well. If you were able to attend a previous Hawai‘i Island Festival of Birds and saw someone in an ‘I‘iwi costume\, that was most likely Rae. \n\nAbout the Author\n\nSam Noʻeau Warner\nUniversity of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Associate Professor Sam Noʻeau Warner was a renowned researcher and teacher who passed away on July 19\, 2016. Warner taught countless students the value of speaking Hawaiian through his innovative approaches to language teaching. His work represents a tremendous contribution to the preservation and revitalization of the Hawaiian language.
