SUMMARY:Book Reading: Albatross of Kaua‘i The Story of Kaloakulua
DESCRIPTION:Kaloakulua was the offspring of Kaluahine and Kaluakane\, a pair of Laysan Albatrosses Phoebastria immutabilis that bred on the Hawaiian island of Kauai in 2013/14.  The breeding attempt from hatching to fledging was livestreamed via a camera operated by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. This illustrated children’s book\, in English with Hawaiian words\, follows Kaloakulua‘s life. (Though this story takes place on Kaua‘i\, these birds are plentiful in Papahānaumokuākea and we see them off our Hawai‘i Island coast as well!) \nWant your own copy to follow along? Purchase here! \n\nAbout the Presenter\n\nSandy Wann Swift\nAloha\, my name is Sandy Wann Swift.  And though I’ve worked in the visitor industry for better part of forty years\, where I enjoyed sharing a little bit of knowledge about native vs. introduced species of birds\, etc. my favorite job has been as a Hawaiian music programmer /deejay\, for the past 23 years at KKCR-FM\, Kaua’i Community Radio.  I’m a happy “Mom” of a 27 year old Nanday Conure\, named Kaulana.  We live in Princeville\, on the beautiful North Shore of Kaua’i\, where are Island community strongly cares about our native birds.  It is my great honor to be able to share Susan Dierker’s book at this Festival.   Mahalo Nui for letting me be a virtual part of this great occasion. \n\nAbout the Author\n\n \nSusan Dierker\nAlbatross enthusiast and very humble human! 🙂
